Geotagging your location on Instagram is one of the most undervalued ways to generate traffic to your profile. The beauty about adding your location to your IG posts is that it allows you to be seen by other users than the ones that already follow you.

This is great because unless you are on the glorified IG Explore page, your account might not really get much traffic outside your own followers. So, in the meantime, while we all wait for our posts to break the Instagram algorithm, let's try another way of getting your account out there to the IG masses.

Let's geotag! Just don't add a location you wouldn't freely share with some weirdo on the street. If you are posting a photo from home, um, I really hope I don't have to tell you this, but don't geotag your exact address, okay? Use something else instead, like "New York, New York" or "Austin, Texas." This could save your life.

If you're worried you've already added a location to an IG post that you wouldn't want someone to know about, then check out how to remove that location from your post at the link below.

Now, to the good stuff. It's been said that geotagging your posts increases engagement up to 79 percent. If that's true, then that is huge and something we definitely all should be doing.

All you got to do is, the next time you post, add a location that you think fits your image the best. Now, whenever someone searches for "New York, New York" or the name of the bar where you are currently drinking yourself to sleep, they will see your wonderful image pop up, tap on it, and hopefully start to check you out.
